These days children make a lot of financial demands on their parents. They all want the latest toys, games and clothes especially as they get older. Well, the best way of showing them the value of money and the fact that unfortunately in life you can´t have everything immediately is to get them to earn their pocket money each week.

Set up a chart listing various duties around the house such as sweeping the floors, keeping their own bedrooms clean and tidy, washing the dishes, cleaning the car etc. etc. and against each one put a monetary value for them to earn their own pocket money to save up for the items they want.

Make the list with minor duties as well as larger ones and therefore if they wish to save for a more expensive item then they will work harder.

This will teach your children to have a good work ethic and make them realise that later on in life they have to work to acquire the nicer things in life. og them onto www.supaswap.com then they can themselves buy and swap toys and games.

I think start small I for example pay £2 to clean the car and £1 ho help cut the grass, for cleaning their room nothing as this should not be a monetary item.

What a great idea we have spent a couple of nights with the children making up the charts, does anybody have any ideas on the values to put against jobs?

Who we are

The Parent Blog, brought to you by Supa Swap is designed to give you tips, tricks and comments about raising a family. In this busy world we live in, SupaSwap would like to help you make life that little bit easier.

Our main blogger, Susan, is just a normal mum. She has two children, twins, Mark and Damian, who are now 14 years old. Her husband Mortimer is often away from home with his work and so Susan has had to find a way of raising her young family that fits in with her life style and a working mum.

Do not forget to let us know your comments against any of the blog articles. We would love to hear your point of view.
